Events are where a league becomes a community. Here is how WATA brings players together beyond the weekly match.
Our events fall into four families. Trial sessions open the door to new players. League events, such as season openers and playoff days, give teams something to build toward. Social events let players relax together. Championship events celebrate teams that have earned the chance to compete at Regional and National level.
Since 1991, WATA players and teams have gone on to attend and win Regional Championships and National Championships. Those results are a source of pride for the whole community and a reason many members keep coming back each season.
Because we offer tennis at any time of year, events are not limited to a single season. Spring brings fresh starts, summer brings relaxed evenings, fall brings playoff races and winter brings indoor tournaments and gatherings.
Dates and venues are published for each season, and every event is open to the people it is designed for. If you are unsure which events suit you, our team will point you in the right direction.

What happens on match day
Whether you play in a league night or an event, the rhythm is similar and easy to follow.
Arrival and welcome
Players arrive about fifteen minutes early. Captains check attendance, share line-ups and welcome any new faces.
Warm-up
Teams hit together to find rhythm, loosen the shoulders and settle nerves before the first serve.
Play
Matches are made of short doubles lines. Scores are called clearly, and each line adds to the team total.
Handshake
Every match ends with a handshake. Win or lose, good sportsmanship is a core value of the community.
Social time
Teams often stay to chat, share results and plan the next match. Many friendships begin here.
Results
Scores are recorded and standings updated, so every team knows exactly where it stands.
The road to Regionals and Nationals
For competitive teams, the season is a climb. League matches decide standings. The best teams reach the playoffs, and from there, strong teams may represent WATA at the Regional Championships. A few go further, to the National Championships.
The journey is not only about winning. It teaches players to rely on each other, to respect opponents from other regions and to enjoy tennis at a higher level of intensity.
If you have never played at that level, do not be put off. Every national team began as a group of friends who signed up for a trial. What matters is joining, showing up and enjoying the game with people you like.
Photographs of championship teams since 1991 are part of WATA’s history, and new photos are added every year.

Why events matter in a tennis community
A league without events is just a schedule. Events add the moments that people remember: the excitement of an opening day, the tension of a playoff, the laughter of a team social. At WATA, these moments are planned with care, because they turn individual players into a community that wants to stay together.
Events also solve a practical problem. Many people hesitate to join a new activity because they do not know what to expect. A trial session or a welcome event answers that worry. You can see the courts, meet the organizers and watch a few matches, all before you commit to anything.
For existing members, events keep the season fresh. Mid-season matches maintain momentum, playoffs give weeks of effort a purpose, and social gatherings remind everyone that the point of tennis is to enjoy it with other people.
Trials: your first step
Our one-time trial sessions are among the most important events we run. They are designed to fit your schedule and are offered at multiple courts. At a trial, you will hit with other players, learn how team matches work and ask questions in a relaxed atmosphere. There is no obligation to join afterwards.
Social events: the glue
Social events are deliberately simple. They are often an extension of match day, such as a team gathering after play. They give introverts an easy way in and extroverts a place to shine. Teams that socialize together tend to play better together, because trust is built off court as well as on it.
Championship events: the summit
For teams that qualify, the Regional and National Championships are the high points of the year. WATA teams have been competing and winning at these events since 1991, and each new team joins a proud tradition. Even members who do not compete often come along to cheer.
Planning your event season
A suggested path through the year for a new member.
Start with a trial
Choose a convenient trial session and bring a friend if you like. The aim is simply to try tennis in the WATA community.
Join the season opener
Once placed on a team, attend the opener to meet your captain and teammates and learn the match-day routine.
Make the social
Do not skip the team social. A little time off court makes a big difference to how comfortable you feel on court.
Cheer at playoffs
Even if your team is not playing, watching playoffs is a great way to see how competitive tennis looks and sounds.
Support the champions
When teams head to Regionals or Nationals, send them off with enthusiasm. Their success belongs to the whole community.
Volunteer
Helping at an event is the fastest way to meet people. Many long-term members started by lending a hand.
Whatever you attend, remember that events are meant to be enjoyable. If you feel nervous, tell a captain or organizer. They have all been new once, and they will gladly introduce you around. If you cannot make an event, there will always be another. Tennis runs all year, and so does our calendar.
Event etiquette and community spirit
Good events depend on good habits. Arrive on time, respect the schedule and tell your captain early if your plans change. Treat opponents as guests, call the score clearly and be generous with line calls. These small courtesies make matches enjoyable for everyone.
Cheering is welcome, and so is quiet during points. Applaud good shots on both sides of the net. A great rally deserves recognition no matter who wins it.
Looking after the venue is part of the culture. Pick up bottles, return equipment and thank the people who host us. Courts that enjoy our visits are courts we get to keep using.
Finally, include others. Introduce yourself to someone new, invite a quiet teammate to the social and share what you know. Welcoming events are the reason WATA has lasted more than three decades.
Events for every kind of player
Busy parents will find daytime and weekend events that fit around school and family. Entrepreneurs can pick evening sessions that end at a sensible hour and leave room for networking. Fitness lovers will enjoy the fast, active match days, while enthusiasts can come and watch the competitive teams in action before trying a trial of their own.
Social butterflies are well served too, since every event leaves time to chat. Experienced players can use playoffs and championship weeks to test themselves. Whatever your reason for playing, the WATA calendar has something for you throughout the year.
