We’re here to help

Whatever your question, there is a person on the Team Tennis Association who can answer it. Here are the most common reasons people write to us.

Joining a league

Ask which league suits your level, how placement works and when the next season begins.

Booking a trial

Request a one-time trial session at a court near you and choose a date that fits your schedule.

Locations

Find out which courts serve Maryland and Washington, DC, and whether indoor play is available.

Events

Captains and teams

Current players can ask about line-ups, substitutes and team arrangements.

Your message is read by a member of our team and sent to the right person. We aim to reply promptly, usually within a couple of working days.

Before you write

Many answers are one click away. Check these first, and write to us if you still need help.

If you are new

You do not need to be good at tennis. Our one-time trial session is designed for people who want to try the game first. You will meet organizers, hit with other players and see how a league feels before deciding.

If you have played before

Tell us your level and what you want from a league. Whether you are returning after a break or want a more competitive team, we will point you to the right place.

If you are already a member

Message us about substitutions, schedule changes or team questions. Please include your team name and your captain’s name so we can reply quickly.

If you want to help

Volunteers make events possible. If you can help with setup, welcoming newcomers or organizing a team social, let us know.

Our leadership team

Your message may be answered by the people who built the community.

Richard Gottfried

Executive Director. Organizing World Team Tennis leagues since 1991.

Stacey Gottfried

Vice President since 2010, supporting community engagement and expanding tennis opportunities.

Contact questions

How fast will you reply?

We reply promptly, usually within a couple of working days.

Can I book a trial through this form?

Yes. Choose “Booking a trial session” as your topic and tell us your area and preferred days.

What areas do you cover?

Maryland and Washington, DC.

No. Players of all skill levels are welcome.

How to get a quick, helpful answer

A clear message gets a clear reply. These simple tips help us help you.

Tell us who you are

Share your first and last name, and say whether you are new, returning or a current member. This tells us what kind of answer you need. A new player wants an overview, while a current player may want to talk about a particular team.

Tell us what you want

Begin with your main question. Are you asking about a league, a trial session, a location or an event? A one-line summary helps us send your message to the right person immediately.

Tell us your level

Describe your tennis experience honestly. You might be a complete beginner, someone who has not played for years or an experienced competitor. There is no wrong answer, and accurate information helps us find a team where you will enjoy the matches.

Tell us where and when

Mention the area where you live or work, such as Washington, DC or a Maryland county, along with the days and times you can play. If you prefer indoor or outdoor courts, say so. With these details, we can suggest locations and match times in our first reply.

Give us a way to reach you

Please double-check your email address and phone number. A small typo is the most common reason a reply does not arrive. If you prefer one method of contact over another, tell us in your message.

Be patient with us

Our team is small and passionate, and many of us are on court ourselves. We reply as promptly as we can, and we will always get back to you.

What to expect after you write

Confirmation

You will see a confirmation message as soon as your form is sent, so you know it arrived.

A personal reply

A member of the team reads your message and replies to your email address with answers or next steps.

A clear next step

If you wanted a trial, we suggest a court and time. If you wanted information, we point you to the right league or event.

Many people worry that contacting a sports association will lead to pressure to sign up. At WATA, that is not how we work. We would rather you take the time to decide, try a trial session and join when you feel ready. Our reward is a community of people who chose to be here.

Of course, if you already know that you want to play, say so! We will get you on a team as quickly as possible, so you can start enjoying the benefits of tennis: a healthier heart, stronger muscles, a sharper mind and a calmer outlook, together with friends who share your love of the game.

Other ways to connect

Besides writing to us, you can take part directly. Visit the Leagues page to explore the different formats, the Locations page to find a court near you or the Events page to see what is on. Each page is designed to answer the questions people ask us most.

You can also simply come and play. A one-time trial session is the best way to meet WATA in person, and anyone from beginner to expert is welcome. Many of our current members first got in touch with a simple question, and we are glad they did.

Common requests, answered in advance

“Which league should I join?”

It depends on your experience and goals. Beginners and returning players usually start in friendly, social leagues, while experienced competitors prefer structured, competitive ones. Our League Finder on the Leagues page gives a quick suggestion, and we will confirm your placement after a trial.

“Can I try before I commit?”

Yes. Our one-time trial session is designed exactly for that. It is offered at multiple tennis courts and fits around your schedule.

“What if I cannot play every week?”

Let your captain know in advance. Teams use substitutes so that matches can proceed, and we will do our best to keep your schedule manageable.

“Can I bring a friend?”

Absolutely. Friends are welcome at trial sessions and many social events, and teams love new members who arrive with someone they know.

Your privacy and your message

When you contact WATA, we use your details to answer your request and nothing more. Your name, email address and phone number help us reply and, if you ask for a trial session, arrange it. We do not need more than that to help you.

The form is protected by reCAPTCHA to keep out automated messages, so genuine requests like yours reach us quickly. By agreeing to the terms before you send your message, you confirm you are happy for us to contact you about your request.

If you would rather not share your phone number, you can leave it out and rely on email. If you would prefer a call, say so in your message and tell us a convenient time.

If you ever want your details removed from our records, tell us and we will take care of it. Your trust matters to us as much as your enjoyment of the game.

One last thing: if you are unsure what to write, just say hello and tell us you would like to try tennis. That is all we need to get started, and we will take it from there.
